Pete,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Sammie. I know that someday in the future I will be going thru the same thing with Ruby and Vamp. Remember this, That all dogs go to heaven, where they can fetch and play all they want.

Loretta, Ruby and Vamp

Pete,

Fishing Davis Lake won't quite be the same. Condolences. Sammie will love it in Heaven. Lot's of other dogs to run with and plenty of rabbits to chase.

Good Lord what a wonderful response. Thank you all for the kind words and the encouragement. I guess when it comes to dogs we all share that affection, love and companionship that comes hand in hand with owing one - not to mention the great stories and memories.

Another Golden is definitely in my future but I still need a little time to work through the loss of Sammie - damn I had no idea how many area's of my life she was tied too. And yes I still hear a noise in the background thinking it's Sammie, or geeze I've gotta go let Sammie out only to realize that she's no longer here - that's tough but it'll pass.

One of the breeders I've been talking with said something that has really stuck with me - "remember what she taught you and pass it on to your next dog."

Thank you all,

Pete

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

Pete,

I am so sorry for your loss. Just had a scare with my older lab (but he's only 6) that cost me over $500. Been cursing about the bill, but this put's it in perspective. Damn I love that dog.

Grew up with 2 Golden's and Sammie looks like a beautiful representation of the breed. It will get easier and just think of all the fun you will have with a new puppie and building new memories when the time is right.

Take care,
dryflychico (AKA Josh)

Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
